No two moves are the same unfortunately. We constantly have customers telling us that “the move last time only took two hours but this time it took three”! There are so many factors at play when moving it is absolutely impossible to say how long any move will take. Here is one of many examples…

Example A – last time “Sally” moved, the truck reversed right up to the front of the house on the drop off point. It was a ground level house and the truck actually got within five metres of the front door. So basically each item only took less than a minute to get in the house. 100 items in the truck let’s say it took 1.5 hours only to unload. The whole move took 4 hours.

Example B – “Sally” moves again. The pick up is from the same place we dropped off last year. This time however she is moving into an apartment on the third floor with one lift only, and typically 2-3 items won’t fit in the lift so they need to go up 6 flights of stairs. Instead of each item taking less than a minute to get in the house like last time, it averages 3 minutes! this time her whole move took 7 hours as opposed to only 4 hours last time.

Unfortunately moving is not an exact science, and it can take hours and hours to get things safely from point A to point B without damage. That’s why most Furniture Removalists in Melbourne work on hourly rate systems. Because it is not only the customers that can get caught out on fixed prices but quite often it is the removalists who lose out financially.

To sum up access is everything! The closer the truck gets, the faster your move goes. The next most important thing or equal aspect of moving is preparation. But that is for another blog…
