DANNY Duggan applied for more than 20 full-time jobs when he returned home to Melbourne after eight years living overseas.
And for someone who managed large pubs in Thailand, it should have been easy to have found a job.
But this wasn’t the case for the West Footscray resident, who got repeated knockbacks and no replies from prospective employers.
He finally ended up finding part-time work with a tiling business, combined with New Start Centrelink payments, but felt pressure to put food on the table for his wife and two children.
“We were struggling a fair bit,” he said. Mr Duggan applied for the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme, a Federal-funded program that gives part-time employed or unemployed the skills to start their own business. The end result is Mr Duggan’s western suburbs-based removal business All the Right Moves.
Mr Duggan runs the company with his wife and business partner Ni. They employ one full-time worker. The business has grown in a short time and there are plans to expand. “I can envisage it will get to the point, possibly within a few months, where I won’t be able to work in the truck myself and will need to be in the office.”
